Join the Downeast Salmon Federation to celebrate the start of summer and the annual return of river herring to the Pleasant River. DSF will have our mobile smokehouse and grill fired up and will provide smoked smelts and river herring. Bring anything else you’d like to add to the grill.
In communities where runs are still harvested—either commercially or recreationally—good data is needed to assure that current river herring populations can be maintained or restored. Similar to our smelt survey program, DSF has committed to help collect good data to co-manage these resources with the State of Maine and local communities.
We hope you can join us in celebrating community and the annual return of this critical species to the Pleasant River!
