Good afternoon!  I’m sure you have been anxiously awaiting the first DMR smolt trapping report for the 2021 season!

Maine DMR operates rotary screw traps to enumerate emigrating Atlantic salmon smolts on the Narraguagus River (Little Falls and Route 9), Sandy River (Lane Road), and East Machias River (Jacksonville Bridge). All sites have been in operating for the past week. Smolt cohorts from each river have begun their migration to the sea! The summary reports for the Narraguagus and Sandy Rivers follow below. A summary report for the East Machias will be included in next week’s update.

If you have further questions regarding observations at sites please contact:

 Narraguagus: Colby Bruchs ()

Sandy River: Jen Noll ()

East Machias: Colby Bruchs () and/or Zach Sheller ()

Thank you for your continued interest in Maine Atlantic salmon!
